2016 Activities & Festival Schedule (2017 schedule coming soon!)

Yes, we know it will be hard to draw yourselves away from the sweet, sweet harmonics provided by the local musicians, but there are many other activities that we feel will grab your attention and cannot be missed out on.

Hot Air Balloon Rides:

Muskoka is arguably one of the most remarkable natural beauties on Earth; wooded glens and the blue tides of Lake Muskoka provide a gratifying, natural ambience that is exclusive to the area of Gravenhurst. Balloon-in-CloudsRe/Max North Country Realty Inc., Brokerage has granted patrons an opportunity to fully experience the organic scenery of Gravenhurst with a bird’s-eye view from their Re/Max Hot Air Balloon ride. As the balloon is securely tied down to the ground to ensure safety, the balloon rises up and over the event – flooding the rider’s eyes with a pristine view of the Muskoka Wharf. The rides will be occurring both August 19th & 20th from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Come one, come all, because this unique experience cannot be lived vicariously through photographs.

Kid Zone:

This year’s Kid Zone brings a handful of activities for children – making sure every child leaves with a smile on their face.

Reading is, without a doubt, a crucial part of everybody’s day-to-day routines; everywhere you look something is able to be read, figuratively and literally. Thankfully, the Gravenhurst Public Library has generously granted visiting children the opportunity to learn how to read. It seems naive to think that with the amount of experience (of being around books) that they possess, that they aren’t knowledgeable on, not only the selection of books to read, but also which ones are best to start with. Swing by the Kid Zone so that your children are able to turn the page on their learning and start a new chapter of their lives! This exhibit will be in attendance for all days of the Dockside Festival.

Painting has been a traditional medium for individuals to express their mood/feelings for everybody to view for years. However, it’s a very difficult hobby to practice due to the frustration of inexperience – which is what makes it a highly-appreciated talent. Thankfully, Susan Halliday, has agreed to come to the Kid Zone and teach adolescents the science behind painting as they have the opportunity to paint their own picture. An amusing way for your kids to spend the day and learn how to get in touch with their artistic side. This exhibit will be in attendance for all days of the Dockside Festival.

Do you have young explorers at home that have a sense for adventure? Well, the Muskoka Discovery Centre is floating their way towards the Kid Zone to provide an adventurous-like atmosphere with assistance from energetic and adrenalized activities for families. Kids use their imaginations as they have the opportunity to master knot tying, build and design or play dress-up. Of course that’s just a condensed version of what is offered, only you have the chance to drop in and really see what all the hype’s about. This exhibit will be in attendance for all days of the Dockside Festival.

Living in Muskoka you’re exposed to many different kinds of wildlife; with that being said, it’s important that we know as much as we can about these animals. Some are at severe risk and need assistance in maintaining their survival within the area before the term ‘extinction’ becomes a reality. A main topic of focus is turtles; turtles are known to, unfortunately, put themselves in dangerous spots such as the middle of roads – putting their lives in danger. This is why Saving Turtles At Risk Today (START) will be visiting the Kid Zone, to ensure that our youth is aware of the issue and can help prevent the depletion of turtles. Come by and be a difference maker! This exhibit will be in attendance for all days of the Dockside Festival.
